Growing up, my neighborhood did a 4th of July parade every year. We would ride our bikes and put streamers on them. Also, there would be water balloons, activities, and snacks. It was so fun and I will always remember it. Now that my son is almost three, he is starting to be more aware and notice things like holidays and birthdays. So I wanted to make a fun 4th of July snack, with a special red, white, and blue themed snack board and a fun art activity.

Forth of July Themed Snack Board

4th of July snack

I love a good snack board. I love the process of putting them together and being creative with my selections. So I figured, why not make a snack board that is kid friendly and red, white, and blue for the 4th of July? So here are the details on how I made this one pictured above.

Prepping your 4th of July Snack Board

Any good snack board has a variety of sweet and savory elements. Something crunchy of course, something soft, something sweeet, something salty, and of course some fresh elements (like fruits or veggies). With that in mind I went to the store and just allowed myself to intuitively select things that were on theme of red, white, and blue. It was surprisingly hard because our family does our best to get “healthier” versions of typical snacks and focus on whole foods like fruits and vegetables. But I am always up for this kind of challenge.

Once you get all the items you want for your kid friendly snack board just start placing things where you would like. I use a board similar to this one (Amazon), but any board or even plate would work great.

Red, White, & Blue Foods for your 4th of July Snack Board

Here are some ideas of foods per color to use on your 4th of July Snack Board:

Red: Strawberries, sliced cherry tomatoes, cut red bell pepper, watermelon cut into star shapes, raspberries, red apple slices, etc.

White: White Cheddar Cheese, Annie’s White Cheddar bunnies, Plain yogurt with a touch of maple syrup for a fruit dip, or ranch for veggie dipping, etc.

Blue: Blueberries. Blackberries, Blue Corn Chips, etc.

Other items that would work on the board: Partake is one of my favorite cookie brands because they are food allergy friendly and they are also very yummy. They had some “Spidey and Friends” cookies at Whole Foods that are food allergy friendly, in them that went perfect with our red, white, and blue theme. See Link for the Partake Cookies (Amazon) we used . Or Sweet Loren’s food allergy friendly plain sugar cookies would be nice on this board under the “white” ish category. If you like sprinkles, you could add some patriotic sprinkles onto the sugar cookies. Or you can also make rice crispy treats and top with sprinkles and cut into little mini squares. Those would look cute on this snack boar too!

The possibilities are endless and it’s fun to just go to the store and get what they have that works with your theme. Enjoy selecting items for your 4th of July snack board.

4th of July Cookie Cutter Stamp Art

4th of July snack

Supplies Needed

This simple activity turned out SO cute. Here is what you will need:

  • Roll of Paper – we use this easel paper from Melissa & Doug (Amazon). I liked using the roll to creator longer art, but regular paper is fine too.
  • Washable Paints in Red & Blue – we used these from Crayola (Amazon)
  • Star cookie cutter Options here (Amazon), but I used this star sandwhich maker (Amazon) I had that made a really cool effect
  • OptionalPaint smocks for Kids (Amazon) are a great way to keep clothes clean. Even washable paints sometimes do not always come out.
  • Optional – I love using my son’s old Bumkins Baby Splat Mat (Amazon) for projects. But you can also lay out a long piece of card board too for this from an old box to protect the floor or table.

How to do the Cookie Cutter Stamp Art

First, we rolled out a long piece of the paper from the roll. Then put blue and red paint on some paper plates. I get the cheap paper plates at the dollar tree for art activities. Next, put the star cookie cutters into the paint and stamp away on the paper. We used one star cookie cutter with the red paint and another with the blue paint to avoid making purple.

The art turns out unique and patriotic. We hung ours up right away to enjoy heading into the holiday. You could do this project with any shape of cookie cutter and any color of paint too. It’s a fun idea to do for any holiday.

Have a Happy 4th of July

We hope you enjoyed these ideas for the 4th of July Holiday. They are intended to be inspiration to take and make your own. Create your kid friendly 4th of July Snack Board using things you already have or fun premade snacks you find at your local store. Make the Cookie Cutter art your own by adding glue and silver, red, or blue glitter, or by adding in crayon or marker into the inside of the cookie cutter shape that has been stamped on the paper.

Have a fun and safe holiday!
